Training is provided in counselling, life skills and other related areas for both professionals and non-professionals. The courses offered at Parivarthan are targeted primarily for those interested in becoming social service or mental health professionals. Individuals or organisations that wish to incorporate counselling techniques into their repertoire of skills will also find the training courses useful.

Life Skills Training

These programmes unfold over four to eight weeks and are offered in both English and Kannada. Participants include corporate employees, homemakers NGO staff, students, doctors, teachers and other professionals over a broad age range (18 years to 78 years).

Module I – Interpersonal Communication And Listening Skills

This is a Self Awareness Programme that offers both intra and interpersonal skills in listening and communication. This is a 40 hour programme conducted over a period of 6 - 7 weeks with 3 hour sessions held twice a week.

We offer the programme at our Centre, in Bangalore on Mondays and Thursdays from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm. This Programme is offered three or four times each year, usually in the months of January, July and October.

The programme emphasizes the personal growth of the participants, the development of basic communication and listening skills and the introduction of a few pertinent tools for self-awareness.

The aim of the course is to improve the quality of life – in family and intimate relationships and in the workplace. This course is experiential in nature with an emphasis on putting theory into practice.

This programme also serves as a pre-requisite for the One Year Training Programme, Basic Skills in Counselling that the Centre offers in June each year.

Module II – Interpersonal Relationship Skills

This is a 40-Hour Training Programme that is conducted on similar time schedules and days as the first module, i.e. Mondays and Thursdays from 10.30 am to 01.30 pm. over a period of 6-7 weeks. This programme‘s emphasis is on “self and the other” and imparts skills that would help participants be more effective in different relationships, viz. at home, in the workplace or in their social circles.

Parenting Skills:

This is a 25-hour training programme that is offered at our Centre at regular intervals. Participants usually meet twice a week for three-hour sessions.

Participation Certificates are awarded for the above modules of the Life Skills Training Programmes.

Counselling Training:

Basic Skills in Counselling:

This is a One Year Training Programme offered at our Centre, we are proud of its track record as a comprehensive skills-training programme.

The Basic Skills in Counselling programme is designed for those professionals who wish to acquire counselling skills for use in their work as health professionals, social workers, teachers, spiritual guides, personnel managers, administrators, psychologists or counsellors. The Course provides training in counselling skills and theory and prepares trainees to develop a counselling role in the setting in which they work, both at the administrative and at the clinical level. The Programme is designed to promote professional development and personal growth of the trainee counsellor.

The One Year Training Programme, BASIC SKILLS IN COUNSELLING begins in June each year and ends in March of the following year. This is a professional course and therefore very intensive and offers both Theories and Skills Training in Counselling. Training Sessions are usually held on Friday and Saturday in the 2nd and 4th week of the month from 10.00 am to 05.00 pm. However trainee- counsellors would need to allocate 20 to 25 hours per week to the Programme in order to complete the other course requirements.

The Life Skills Training Programme - Module 1, Interpersonal Communication and Listening Skills is a  pre- requisite course for the One Year Course, as it helps you to decide if you really are keen to train as a counsellor as well as gives Parivarthan an indication as to your readiness for the counselling training. Attending the Life Skills Course makes you eligible to apply for the BASIC SKILLS IN COUNSELLING Programme. There is separate admission process for the One Year Course.

A Certificate in Counselling is awarded on completion of all the course requirements.
