Training

Training is provided in counselling, life skills and other related areas for both professionals and non-professionals. The courses offered at Parivarthan are targeted primarily for those interested in becoming social service or mental health professionals. Individuals or organisations that wish to incorporate counselling techniques into their repertoire of skills will also find the training courses useful.

Life Skills Training

These programmes unfold over four to eight weeks and are offered in both English and Kannada. Participants include students, homemakers, NGO staff, doctors, teachers and a broad age range of other professionals.

Module I – Interpersonal Communication And Listening Skills

A 40-Hour Training Programme with participants meeting twice a week for three hours over a period of seven weeks. The programme emphasises the personal growth of the participants, the development of basic communication and listening skills and the introduction of a few pertinent tools for self-awareness. The aim of the course is to improve the quality of life – in family and intimate relationships and in the workplace.
This course is experiential in nature with an emphasis on putting theory into practice and is a pre-requisite for the One Year Training Programme, Basic Skills in Counselling that the Centre offers in June each year.

Module II – Interpersonal Relationship Skills

A 40-Hour Training Programme that unfolds over a period of seven weeks. This programme ‘s emphasis is on “self and the other” and imparts skills that would help participants be more effective in different relationships, viz. at home, in the workplace or in their social circles.

Certificates are awarded on completion for both modules of the Life Skills Training Programmes.

Parenting Skills:

A 25-hour training programme that is offered at our Centre at regular intervals. Participants meet once/twice a week for three-hour sessions.

Premarital Counselling:

A programme for couples who are planning to get married offered in a series of Workshops

Counselling Training:

Basic Skills in Counselling:

A One Year Training Programme offered at our Centre, we are proud of its track record as a comprehensive skills-training programme. The Basic Skills in Counselling programme is designed for those professionals who wish to acquire counselling skills for use in their work as health professionals, social workers, teachers, spiritual guides, personnel managers, administrators, psychologists or counsellors. It provides training in counselling skills and theory and prepares trainees to develop a counselling role in the setting in which they work, both at the administrative and at the clinical level. The Programme is designed to promote professional development and personal growth of the trainee counsellor.

The course requires participants to come into Parivarthan for four days a month for theoretical inputs. With working people in mind, practicum, supervision and individual counselling sessions for personal growth have flexible schedules.

A Certificate in Counselling is awarded on completion of all the course requirements.

Advanced Training in Counselling:

Parivarthan offers advanced training in the field of counselling for counsellors who are actively involved in counselling in their own practice or in organisations. The training will be held in two to six month modules (part-time) and will include both theory and skills in the content. Some of the modules offered include:\

• Basic Skills in Child and Adolescent Counselling
• Basic Skills in Couple and Family Counselling
• HIV/AIDS Awareness and HIV/AIDS Counselling
• Narrative Therapy
• Brief Therapy
• Working with Differences
• Bereavement Counselling

Certificates are awarded on completion of the Advanced Training Programmes

Advanced Course in Transactional Analysis

This training programme runs for a minimum period of two years, with training sessions conducted on the first weekend (Saturday & Sunday) of every month. It is useful for those interested in clinical and organisational certfication in Transactional Analysis and includes both theoretical and practical applications.

A Diploma as a Certified Transactional Analyst by the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA) U.S.A. is awarded on completion of the course.

These training modules are tailor-made to suit the needs of various corporate, governmental, non-governmental organisations and educational institutions.
