Dear Friend,

Parivarthan would like to introduce you to its new service- A Youth and Child Helpline manned by qualified and experienced child counsellors.

Through our work, we have seen numerous clients that disclose, in counselling, traumatic events that they experienced in childhood. For most of them this would be the first time they had told anyone. As children, they were reluctant to come forward to family and friends due to fear that- people would not believe them, they would not get support or empathy, they would not be loved, they would be blamed or it would lead to further abuse.
 
These events had taken a great toll on their lives- their academic performance, ability to form and maintain relationships, ability to have successful careers and generally to have happy and content lives. They wish that they had somewhere to turn to. Someone they could talk to, who would hear, believe and support them. It may not have prevented things from happening but perhaps they could have dealt with it differently. Maybe the impact would have been less…

I am sure you have stories of clients, colleagues, friends, family, perhaps even yourself that sound like this. This is not a story far removed from “people like us”. It is our reality. Child abuse cuts across geographic, socio economic, linguistic and other barriers.

To address this very need, Parivarthan augments its counselling services with a Youth and Child Protection Telephone Helpline. This helpline will provide an accessible and confidential service where professional counsellors will be able to aid children and adolescents in distress. It will provide assistance to children and adolescents who are subjected to emotional, physical or sexual abuse and are facing traumatic and stressful situations. It will also be available to adults looking for support in dealing with children and adolescents in distress.

We solicit your support in passing the word around about this service. Please find attached, posters with calling details. We request you to print out copies and display them in areas frequented by children. If you work in or are associated with a school, we seek your assistance in getting necessary permission to put this up in schools.
