10th anniversary celebrationsSaturday, August 06, 2005

Hotel Atria, Palace Road, Bangalore

Programme :

6.30 PM - 6.35 PM WELCOME

Welcome to our 10th Anniversary Celebrations.

When we began to think of how we would like to mark this special occasion, there were many ideas that came forward, but what kept coming back to us again and again, was the feeling of "gratitude" to all the people who have contributed to make Parivarthan what it is today. So today is a day of acknowledgement and thanks to all of those who have gone before us.

6.35 PM - 6.45 PM Presentation of Certificates

6.45 PM - 6.50 PM Introduction of FR. MATHEW PERUMPIL- Director, Snehadaan

6.50 PM - 7.00PM Address TO THE COUNSELLORS - Fr. Mathew Perumpil

7.00 PM - 7.10 PM THE PARIVARTHAN STORY

Founders and Early Supporters to be acknowledged

Parivarthan today is like a Work in progress Jigsaw puzzle. As we began to put together the pieces of our past, we found so many people who made up our foundation and the scenic background.

MESSAGE FROM MARIJKE (Psychotherapist from Netherlands)

When receiving your mail my first thought was: this cannot be true, 10 years already?! How fast is life flying!!! So it must be 11 years ago already that I said to some TA trainees "why don't you all found an institute so that you can continue the work after Carlos and Saroj have left". That simple remark started it all. Carlos and Saroj started the founding and then left for USA, and while Lali worked very hard to keep Parivarthan going I was presenting workshops all over the place to earn the rent for the office!

Those were the days! My goodness these first two years! How eager we all were to get things moving and how many lessons were there to be learned. So many talented TA students learning to run a business. Of course there were fights, disagreements, conflicts even, but also successes. Don't we say "all is well that ends well".

Each and every time when I am in India  meeting staff and students of Parivarthan I can see how much progress and success is created by the cooperation of all. So all is well indeed! I think you all can be proud of yourselves.
I am sending you my heartfelt congratulations and in spirit I'll be with you on august 6th. Of course I would have loved to be physically present at the function too but since I choose to stay home this summer it cannot be. Choosing is also loosing (a bit), isn't it?

I am planning to come to  India though, somewhere in January / february. And of course we will meet  again then.

Love,

Marijke

MESSAGE FROM PHYLLIS (Director 1998 - 2002)

Congratulations to everyone at parivarthan celebrating ten years of serving the needs of the community.

Carlos and Saroj Welch, the founders, had a vision of hope and healing while establishing parivarthan in 1995. I was privileged to be a part of the parivarthan dream - and take this oportunity to acknowledge:

The unstinting contribution of each member of the executive committee, the high standards of training in counseling skills by every member of the faculty - past and present - the generosity and valued collaboration by the visiting faculty - and last but certainly not the least, the voluntary and ongoing involvement of every trainee, client and program participant who vouch the efficacy of the work at parivarthan by their own personal transformation.

Parivarthan counseling, training and research centre is truly the greatest!

May you grow from strength to strength!

Phyllis

Just today I received the beautiful Annual Report and the invitation to the anniversary in the post.  And now I also get your email message.  Many thanks for both.

I will, of course, not be able to attend the celebration.  Instead, I will be with you all in my thoughts.

You can be so proud of what you have created and how you continue to develop and grow.

Looking at the Annual Report, with all its accounts of huge and meaningful work done, and with the lovely photos, I realise how very fond I am of you all.

With love
Charlotte

7.30 PM - 7.45 PM ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TRAINERS

INTRODUCTION - (AUDIO- VISUAL PRESENTATION):

Audio-visual presentationGood Evening. I feel privileged and honoured to address this gathering. I consider myself a veteran of Parivarthan and I know I am in good company. I did a Life Skills Training course, and then a long year long Basic Skills course and then another year long course from which I graduated !!! Earlier this year I did an advanced course in Child & Adolescent counseling , and so I claim to be a Veteran. But a veteran of what ? A veteran of the many battles that I sometimes very reluctantly waged with the demons inside of me. The battlefield was varied, but the first one where I was encouraged and empowered was Parivarthan. And who led me, and numerous others into these battles? They were our Trainers, Counsellors, Facilitators, guest faculty, who with firm convictions commitment and sometimes painful dedication, led us, no not only led us , but stayed alongside. They were the ones who pushed , pulled cajoled threatened (quite veiled ones tho ) to help us get where we needed to though we ourselves didn't recognize it . One aspect of our PARIVARTHAN TRAINING WHICH I THINK SETS IT APART AND gives it the thrust that it has, is that the trainers and all those who imparted knowledge to us at the course, shared it from their own deep seated experience. Not from a smug "Been there done that " , but an empathetic and caring fellow traveler who has experienced the pain and perils of the journey. Today these facilitators have through their committed efforts developed Parivarthan to not only an institution which conducts the short term courses and the basic skills but which now conducts advanced courses, which puts it in the league of Institutions that have made it !! to put it in lay mans terms. Parivarthan has today, completed 10 years. We have among our facilitators, the pioneers, the sloggers and those today, who carry the baton onwards. To these we also raise our toast. They have taken on themselves to carry on Parivarthan's tremendous work and ethics.

MESSAGE FROM BASIL (Director -Programmes 2002 - 2004) & FR. PRADEEP SEQUEIRA (Guest Faculty)

Life has been quite hectic for us here, particularly on the job front. However, memories of Parivarthan never tire creeping into my day. I miss being there to celebrate this milestone event in Parivarthan's ongoing development. Our BSIC graduates may likely associate Parivarthan's 10 th year of development to parallel what Erikson called the stage of Industry and Competence . Parivarthan has indeed demonstrated this industry and competence over the years. Perhaps, it has now even matured beyond its age, to having already established an Identity as a caring and professional counselling agency. My best wishes to each one of you, staff, trainees, clients and well-wishers on this very special and proud occasion of celebrating Parivarthan's first successful decade. And I have had the privilege to be a small part of this Story.

I wish that this celebration occurred a little later this year? may be like the end of October or early November. But never mind, I will get to meet you all at that time, anyway!

Regards,

Basil and Urvashi

Dear Malini,

Thanks for the invitation to the Decennial celebrations of Parivarthan.

I regret that I shall not be able to attend the function at Atria on 6th Aug, since I will be in Mangalore on that day on another assignment. Kindly hold me excused.

But please accept and convey my warm greetings and congratulations:  to you and your team and the programme participants at Parivarthan.

I have much appreciation for the professional quality of your commitment and service.  May God bless you and Parivarthan.

Pradeep Sequeira, SJ

7.50 PM - 7.55 PM CLOSURE

Donors to be acknowledged

For those of you who have read through our Annual Report for the year 2004-05, you may have noticed a small para on the last page which mentions that we are proud to be able to maintain our work ethic at Parivarthan, which is that no one is denied a service either in counselling or training, on account of their inability to pay and that we do not compromise on our standards or quality of work, regardless of the monetary returns. We now want to acknowledge and thank those who have enabled us to maintain this work ethic by their financial support over the past 10 years:
